Whether it’s drawing, painting, clay sculpting or another art endeavor, Kalamazoo Institute for Arts’ summer programs have something for your child. Why settle for the usual summer fare when your child can find his or her inner Picasso?
The museum’s week-long summer camps this year are exploring Kalamazoo Institute for Arts’ current exhibition: On Paper: The Lincoln Center /List Art Collection. In addition to getting a specialized tour of the museum, students will use their inspiration to create their own two- and three-dimensional art. All materials are provided. Students should be enrolled in the grade they will enter next fall.
For students entering first through fifth grade, these children will have fun with drawing, painting, print making, clay and other sculpture. Children will be divided by age. Please send a sack lunch each day. The camps for first- through fifth-graders come in both half day (9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) and full day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). For older children, the camps will be June 21–25, June 28–July 2, July 6–9, July 12–16, July 19–23, July 26–30 and Aug. 9–13.
The camps for 4-year-old and kindergarteners run from 9 a.m. to noon. The camps for the small fry are offered during fewer weeks than for older kids. These camps are offered only during June 21–25, June 28–July 2, July 19–23 and July 26–30.
Kalamazoo Institute for Arts doesn’t forget middle- and high-school kids! Those aged 11 through 16 can have the unique chance to work with several faculty members from the Kirk Newman Art School on two- or three-dimensional art in the Young Artists Multi-Media Art Camp. The subjects include drawing, painting, photography, print making, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry and glass. Please be sure to pack a sack lunch each day. These camps, which run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., are offered July 12–16 and Aug. 2–6.
