Cosmo’s Cucina rather resembles a talented character actress who completely remakes herself with each role. At night, the eatery delivers delectable dinners creatively prepared; on the weekend, Cosmo’s Cucina transforms into a sunlit space with creative takes on breakfast favorites.
Tucked two blocks west of historic Chenery Auditorium on the corner of Vine and Locust, Cosmo’s Cucina shares the 110-year-old building at 804 W. Vine St. with O’Duffy’s Tavern. Patrons for Cosmo’s Cucina should enter from the rear and head upstairs, where they will find attendant servers and a brightly lit space much larger than expected. Naturally, Cosmo’s Cucina’s menu lists novel appetizers, such as its Cheese Course of marinated Feta cheese, roasted peppers, black olives and fresh herbs and pita ($7.99), its various pizzas ($7.99) or the Lobster Quesadilla ($10.99).
Entrées favor the cosmopolitan. The menu includes such sophisticated fare as Oven-Roasted Duck Breast, which is a rosemary-rubbed breast, thinly sliced and finished with a balsamic cherry sauce and served with mashed sweet potatoes and a salad with pine nuts and Gorgonzola cheese ($19.99), and Fennel-Encrusted Port Tenderloin, which is oven-roasted tenderloin served with vegetables, accompanied by an arugula salad ($16.99).
Or you might try the Tortellini Primavera, a cheese tortellini dish that includes fresh vegetables and Fontina cheese ($14.99). For another $3.19, you can add chicken; you can add shrimp or prosciutto for $3.99. These are just a few of the items on the dinner menu.
Light eaters will find several sandwiches ($8.99–$10.99) on the menu, too.
On the weekends, Cosmo’s Cucina delivers one of the most memorable breakfasts in town. Guests will be hard-pressed to decide amongst Eggs Bennie — Cosmo’s take on the traditional Eggs Benedict, swapping capicola ham for the Canadian bacon ($7.99) — various omelets, ($6.99–$7.59) or many other dishes. Cosmo’s signature breakfast dish is the Belgian waffles ($3.99 for buckwheat, malted or oat), which come with fruit and/or yogurt at an additional charge. What better way to the while away a lazy weekend morning?
