Kazoo School Reviews

Kazoo School has a great philosophy of helping students learn based on who they are, not who the system thinks they should be. And while many people have asked if its bad to be at a smaller school all I can say is that it is the best way to learn! My son's teacher really does know him -- how to motivate him, talk to him and work with him -- he's advanced in some areas, behind in others and she adapts and adjusts. The school's leader and board have gone out of their way to make the school diverse in socio-economic ways. Many of the families receive scholarships so it's not just priveleged children that attend school here. There are three words to describe this school: small, intimate and exceptional.

All four of my children attended Kazoo School from Kindergarten until 8th grade. All four of them have spectacularly different learning styles, all of which were catered to in one way or another. The teachers are very hands on (but not violent), and understand many needs. Field trips are regular occurrences, and very relevant to the current topic. The end.

I attended Kazoo School from Kindergarten until 8th grade. Throughout my experience at said school, I was very challenged, and was able to exercise my full academic abilities. I now attend both KAMSC and Loy Norrix. Though the size of Kazoo School didn't necessarily prepare me for the size of high school, the course material is a breeze because of what I learned at Kazoo. As one can see, my vocabulary skills far surpass that of an average 15-year old girl (or boy). I have Kazoo School to thank for that skill, and my immense modesty. And I read Shakespeare, which was quite awesome, for loss of better words. Goodbye, Ava

Kazoo School is the best school in the Kalamazoo area. Students are respected as individuals, and learn to respect one another. Every child is challenged at his/her level of academic and emotional readiness. Every child is encouraged to succeed. Daily physical education is invaluable. It encourages fit, healthy children and helps develop exercise habits that can last a lifetime. My daughter has flourished at Kazoo School. She loves the hands-on learning projects, exploring nature in Kleinstuck Preserve, reading to younger class buddies, science projects, book projects, dance classes, Spanish class, and of course, all school recess. I love that she feels safe, happy, and has been very well supported in her learning needs. This is the most caring, community driven school I have ever experienced.

My son has been at Kazoo School since 4th grade and is now a 7th grader. This school has been wonderful! The teacher/student ratio is fantastic and therefore allows for personal attention and for accelerated teaching based on your childs skills. It is a progressive school with children who qualify for advanced learning in the ATYP program, math and science competitions, extracurricular activities such as basketball and volleyball, not to mention the physical well being of our children by having gym class and recess EVERYDAY! I would not hesitate to recommend this school to anyone. The most important aspect about having your child get an excellent start in life in a very nurturing and caring school with excellent academic offerings can be found at Kazoo school!

Kazoo is an excellent school with great academic programs. The school has a policy of inclusiveness which teaches kids to play with everyone and not to bully anyone. The kids there are very happy and have one numerous academic awards.

This is a small Pre-K to 8 school. My son has been attending for the last 3 years and has really grown. He is constantly challenged. Academic programs blend with extracurricular to include a schoolwide overnight camp trip to a school wide science fair. Every child participates at the level that is appropriate for them. Parents are involved in everything, from the back to school community potluck picnic to helping in the class, driving for field trips, and volunteering in the many school activities/projects. Classes are multi-level with older classes partnering with younger for reading aloud and art projects. There is P.E. everyday, lots of fun games and dance. A nature preserve backs onto the school grounds and classes make use of it in biological and ecological observation and study. I constantly hear parents say 'I wish I had gone to a school like this'. I agree.

The Principal leadership and friendliness was the worst part of my experience. I loved the teachers and the parental involvement. I new most of the parents and chidrens names in my daughters class the 7 years she was there.
